From a Virginia Beach Proposal to a Destination Wedding

I first met Andrew on a very cold January evening when I captured his surprise proposal to his then-girlfriend, Nicky, on Virginia Beach. As we shivered and waited while her friends kept her preoccupied at Barnes & Noble, Andrew dreamed about their forever. Little did I know that I was going to have the honor of being a part of it beyond that night!

A few months after we thawed out from the beach proposal, Andrew and Nicky reached out to ask me if I would consider capturing their wedding. Of course, I said I would love to, and then I learned they would be tying the knot in Andrew's home state of Vermont.

I remember during our consultation call telling them I would absolutely love to travel for their big day, but surely there were photographers in Vermont. Why bring me? They told me how they loved their engagement photos and hadn't found a good fit there.

That was a perfectly good reason to me, and travel arrangements were made!

An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony on Lake Champlain

I arrived at Kingsland Bay State Park and was greeted by bright blue skies and Lake Champlain glistening in the sunlight. It was a beautiful day for a wedding! I took a little self-guided tour of the venue, ceremony location, and potential photo spots.

When I met up with Andrew and Nicky, they were putting the last of the finishing touches together at the venue before running off to get themselves ready! After a few pictures of Nicky getting into her dress and a first look with Dad, she was headed down the aisle. It was a bright and beautiful ceremony.

The lake looked as though its surface was crafted from a thousand crystals as it glistened in the background. The joy of those two becoming one was tangible.

Wedding Portraits at Kingsland Bay State Park

We ducked into some lovely shade for family and couple portraits. We had some fun getting all the groupings, and then it was time for Andrew and Nicky's solo shots. We wandered around the beautiful property to grab a few different looks.

A Relaxed Outdoor Wedding Reception in Vermont

The reception was such a comfortable atmosphere, with yard games and kids playing under the big willow tree. Andrew and Nicky took the opportunity to serve their guests, which I thought was such a sweet way to start their life together.

After some toasts (and roasts), dancing, and CAKE, I left those two to party the night away.

It was such an honor to capture the start of forever for Andrew and Nicky, and I was so blessed that they were willing to bring me all the way to Vermont to spend this day with them.
