Peace

Bible, Peace

Peace is Union with God

The word peace primarily used in the Old Testament is Eirene meaning “tranquility - “the exemption from rage of war” or harmony - “security, safety, prosperity”. This comes from the root word Eiro meaning “to join”. When we are joined in unity with Christ, only then will we be able to experience the peace that only he can give. John 16:33 tells us that in Christ we have peace.

His Peace

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

The peace of Christ cannot be found in the world. When we become joined with God through salvation and the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit, there are no strings attached. We cannot replicate this unity anywhere in the world. When humans try to make peace there are contracts and ultimatums involved. There are always conditions to our unity with other people.

Pursue Peace

Our flawed flesh does not excuse us from Christ’s call to pursue peace. We posses Christ’s peace and we have a responsibility to share that peace with others. When we walk in the spirit, in unity with his steps, we walk in peace. We bear peace that others may experience it for themselves.

Pray for Peace

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7

When we surrender every situation to Christ, we are filled with His peace.
